Livia Furrer

Afro/Dancehall

Livia Furrer

Livia Furrer realized early on that music is what she lives for. Her mother introduced her to the world of musicals and singing. Fascinated by combining voice and body, she started learning hip-hop and jazz in her childhood. After graduation, she was ready to explore her passion further. Thanks to various workshops nationally and internationally, her experience in dance crews (ASD Impact, RealRiddim) and regular classes, she expanded her dance horizons until she finally found her way to Afro and dancehall.

She loves to immerse herself in these dance styles and develop them further. Her center of inspiration is Paris, where she participates in various workshops and events whenever she can. As a member of the professional dance company Dem-A!-Dis, she is deeply involved in the Swiss dancehall scene and invests in the growth of the afro scene with various projects, collaborations and programs on the side. For Livia the most important thing is not to stand still, to always educate herself, to question what she passes on to the best of her knowledge, but most of all to encourage the individuality and diversity of the students.

Class description
In her basic classes Livia works mostly on steps she uses after in her choreos. The basic class is open for every student to give inputs, wishes and priorities to work on. Livia wants to take her time on every student and don’t lose the fun while working on their skills.
In her choreos, Livia is working with emotions to help her students processing their daily life and creating a space where students can be whoever they want to be. It is important for her that the students know the basics and can build up on them to find their own way of expressing themselves through movement so they can let go and start to feel free within their movements. Individuality and unity in diversity is the most important for her.

Livia wants to create a space where students can forget the world outside and just be present in the moment, celebrating life from an individual and group perspective.
